The favorite day of the year for couples, people who are dating or people who have date. Febraury 14 the day where every restaurant will be crowded and waiting lists are long. For restaurants one of there busiest days and for servers one of there best tip days. I remember when I was a server at an Italian restaurant in Santa Monica I would get up to $400 that night, how I loved Valentine’ s day. I still do and so does the jewelry stores and See’s candy the lines are long not to mention the flower shops they are non stop. So for the most part most men expect a gold watch, colonge, a book or something like that. Most women expect jewelry, chocolates, and floweres and on both sides they are going out. Most couples will go to a restaurant to a nice dinner, to dance or to the movies. It’s so common that every year it is the same, but I don’t know if it’s society who made it that way or does the media have a lot do to with our decisions.

              For example, many commercial  are focusing on selling chocolates, restaurants are letting you of there Valentine’ s dinner specials and flower shops are in every site when you go online. The newspaper even has coupons for the jewelty store Tiffany I don’t know if this is what people really want or need or it can just be what the media would like to sell.I mean they already have that Valentine’s day movie with really great famous actors. You can definitely make it a Valentine’s Day and day any day of the year and give your special someone a great gift I don’t think it is a need to buy soemthing for your significant other that day or else people will think of you not romanitic. I don’t think you need to buy them something expensive specially if you are just dating. A price on a gift doesn’t really say I love you this much because this is how much this ring or watch cost. I think it is through the enitre year is how you show how much you love the person .I think that when you love one day will not be enough to show that person how much you love them.  

We are always judging the Black community as well as the Hispanic community on there morals and behavior. Society has made a perfect picture of white people including there teenagers as being well behaved, smart and creative. I was watching a television show on Enews channel 51 about teenagers that become criminals at such an early age. As my husband and I watch the show for about an hour we realized that there was only one Black teenager who was put in jail for killing someone. We saw over 7 cases of teenagers killing their parents, classmates, bestfriends, and girlfriends who were white. Many of the motives were anger,depression,confusion, and jealousy. I mean my quesiton is why are more white teenagers suffering from depression. All of this cases were mostly in the upper white communities. Most of this adolescents and teen parents were owners of guns and kept them in places where anyone can get a hold of them. You might think that most of this communities where white upper-class people live will be safe and you may think it is a great place to raise your children. I mean in my opinion I rather stay in downtown L.A. and raise my daughter here because at least I know what goes in here as oppose to a community where they try to hide the sun with a finger, as my mom says. Meaning they are pretending to be something they are not and us the Hispanic and Blacks we are who we are. I just wonder what goes inside of this teens head because I know they are not insane because they plan there crimes. Each case was plan and most of them plan it like an adult will do. I guess that if they are planning crimes like an adult will do then I guess they should be convicted as an adult criminal.

The media influences people in so many ways, but it also influences our teenagers. The media has created a stereotype of todays teenagers. The media only describes one group of people in most shows for teenagers that aims more to teenagers that are upper middle-class, but what about our lower-class. I haven’t seen a show that they can identified with maybe only the movie “Bring It” which is not even close to a lower-class teenager. The news can cover stories about students and there college problems or students in high schools who are making a science project. The media covers what sometimes isn’t important, but that they think people will be more interested in reading or viewing. We see all this shows for example Hannah Montana, Degrassi, and shows of upper-middle-class teengars who are pregnant, but we don’t see a show of a lower class teenager who is hispanic. I mean most of those shows are for teenagers whose parents make more than 80,000 a year or more in order to identify with those shows. But what about a lower-class teenager who can they identify with in the media. Why is it that no one in the news covers any of there stories.

I am tutoring 4 teenagers who live in my neighborhood which are lower-class in the ages of 13-14. They are in there last year of Junior High and have really bad grades, but they will still be able to graduate and go to high school without good grades. They are very smart, but there dreams have being taken away. One of them told me something that made me realize that I am more than just someone who helps them with there math homework or teaches them there multiplication I am there friend. I remember the first day we started about a month ago the answer they gave me when I asked them, ” Why don’t you like school?” they said, ” I don’t know, I guess because no one in my family cares and no one in school cares so why should I care.” They are not just teenagers they have problems yes a teenager can have problems. They are either growing up with no father or no mother or neither. One them lives with her grandmother and her aunt, but its sad to know that her parents don’t care about her I will never understand why because I myself have a baby girl and she means the world to me. I can write a book of each one about there lifes and all the things that they have being through at such an early age. There families and parents are making them live there lives so fast and giving them so little options.

I don’t understand if the media is there to let the world know of the problems that are affecting the community and try to open our eyes why do we have so many lower-class teenagers dropping out of school. The media only shows percentages of how many lower-class teens go to college or how many get pregnant at an early age or how many gangs we have. They only show numbers and there statistics and there so call research but they never show a story about a lower-class teenager and all there challenges. They never go beyond of why they are doing so poor in class maybe because they don’t have the right nutrition or private tutors to help them. I know within some years I will see this teenagers that are now part of my life with careers. Hopefully someday the media will cover a good story of teenagers in the lower-in-come families.

To most women this are the most romantic words to here from your partner. Most people think that women are more sensitive than men. It is looks more cuter for wome to receive flowers with a note that has a quote of William Shakespeare.Now is it still cute for men to receive such gift from their partner? What if that partner was also a man?Would it still have that same romance or cuteness. Most people will disagree and feel in some way offended. I wonder what is the differences. Is it because society has made it this way that it should only be a man and a woman. I understand that most people that abolish the idea of having homosexuality are religious, but in some way they contradict there own beliefs.

Religious people claim that they are right, that homosexuality is a sin to God, but I wonder don’t we all sin everyday. I mean according to them most bibles say that there shouldn’t be a man and man, but it also says that a woman should be virgin until married and no one makes a big deal out of that. There are so many laws and things that are forbidden in the bible, but we still do them. But why is it okay to judge others and condemn, and what about ourselves. I mean aren’t we already sinning by judging and to some extend hating your neighbor. Why is it okay for a heterosexual couple to accomplish all there dreams, but not a homosexuals.

Most homosexual couples experience so many things to be accepted in society. They say that we are now a more open minded society, but I don’t see it. If we were wouldn’t homosexuals have the same rights as a heterosexual couple. An opportunity to have a nice wedding, a family and so on. They can’t because we are still in some way thinking that they are not normal, that they can’t possibly love. They are people like us treated like a weird species. I have many homosexual friends who feel we still have more barriers to break.

Chris Matthew from the msnbc news channel made a comment about the Presidents race. He said that he forgot that he is black I mean as far as I know he is half black half white. So, why is it that the entire country just sees a black president if he is also white. Even the president himself portraits himself more as a black person then white. I just feel he does that to keep on having the support of minority groups. So that the nation can see that america has no more racial issues and that we are more modern. If obama’s background was only black would he made to become the President of U.S.A.

I mean if America is a nation that likes changes and is ready for them why is that it is a men who became President and not a women. We are all still thinking old fashion. Many people were judging Chris Matthew on twitter for saying a racial comment. When in reality it’s not only race the problem in America, but the discrimination against women. What is more interesting is that most women did not vote for Hillary Clinton as our President I  am guessing that we are a nation that isn’t ready for a real change. It was sad to hear from other women that Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be capable of controlling a nation like United States I mean she was a great asset to President Clinton. I think she was the brain of Mr. clinton.I

I know the comment was a bit disturbing, ” I forgot He was Black”. I mean what was he trying to say with that. Some how every time a President makes public speech there’s always something to make it more interesting. I am not sure if it’s done purposely to get more advertisement, popularity, and of course make a news that will interest people to gain money.

The story of a men who has a mental retardation, and becomes a father of a baby girl.  That is how the story started in the movie I am Sam.  Sam faces so many struggles to keep his daughter with him because  of his disability.  In the movie there are many messages to the audience. One message if clearly that love powers anything, that we may think that a person with a disability is miserable when  a so call “normal person” is more miserable than them. The biggest messages was about Sam, the movie is trying to make a point about people with certained disabilities that they are also humans who have a heart and are capable of loving. They are not treated equally and giving an opportunity with society. They are being isolate from society because we feel they can’t think like us. They are mental retarded and can’t follow certain instructions. The movie I am Sam proved us wrong that they are just as capable of doing anything in life-like anyone else. That they can also raise a family I know it is just a movie, but it is also a calling to all of us that they are being forgotten. They also have dreams and goals in life.  We may all view it differently and may have different opinions on regards to it. In some way this movie was to made to gain certain profit and some power. They definitly want the audience to be aware that mental ill people are not just someone with a disability, but people who would like to be treated as one.

First it was the Jews who were discriminated by the Americans, then it was the Black community and now its Latinos. Why?, ” I ask that question to myself ” There are many college students graduating right now with no where to go. I know, they can just go back to there countries, but what if the only country they know is U.S.A. The media has created this image of lazzy Latinos, but they just cover the bad stories. Our parents came to this country because it was the ” Land of Opportunity”, but they are not giving  us a chance to show the world our potential. They say, ” A mind is terrible thing to waste.”But whose mind are they referring to a white upper-class or a brown skin lower-class. There are many immigrant students waiting for that opportunity to make there dream come true of graduating from college and working in what there passionate about. I mean just because they are immigrants doesn’t mean they don’t have dreams or a desire to be someone in life. The English speaking channels hardly ever cover stories about us unless its someone who did a crime. They never inform people that we are also people just like any U.S. citizen. The English speaking channels talk about how we are taking away jobs from U.S citizens, but they don’t mentioned when a latino has being brutally beaten up from a racist group of people. It makes me laugh sometimes when news channels or a newspaper talk about all the jobs immigrants are taken away from U.S. citizens, but most of the time citizens or reidents would not take those jobs because they are the less paid and have no benefits. You will never see an immigrant getting a job as a teacher, so how is it that we are taking away the jobs from an American.

What’s so ironic about the U.S. and there representatives is that they are all European descendents, they also come from immigrants. Technically they are the first immigrants to this country. I see the President and everyone sitting in the white house deciding the future of many families and taking them apart just because they are immigrants. I mean most of them like most Americans come from other countries all over the world, they can probably be 3rd, 4th, or 8th generation, but they couldn’t be here if there great parents wouldn’t have migrated to the this country. They could’ve also being treated as criminals like they like to call illegal people. I believe a criminal is one who kills, but a men or women who work all day to give a better education to there son or daughter does that make them criminals? .

Are fast food restaurants and frozen food ads really to blame for more people being obese?  Most people in the U.S. live a very fast life. Most families go out to eat dinner to restaurants or buy food that are already made. I guess because they are so busy they don’t have time to cook. I don’ think commercials or ads are really to blame because its a choice. For instance Mc. Donald’s ads are both healthy and unhealthy, you can either choose to buy a burger with fries or a salad with water. I think ads are meant to show the consumer hey look this what we sell and here are some of your options. Maybe commercials are meant for when you have a craving of something different not homemade and they are just letting you what they have. Most people like to blame advertisement or restaurants in order not to take responibility of there own actions and its easier to blame others. 

For example I have noticed  the  difference between parents that are from other countries and parents who were born in the U.S. Most parents from other countries take the time to cook homemade everyday,  as for parents who are born here buy more from the frozen section and purchase food already made. In the lower class they buy more junk food such as sweets, chips, soda  and pre-made foods. Or they go eat everyday to a fast food restaurant. As for the upper-class they eat more fancier food, but also pre-made or order form the near by restaurant. Both sides hardly ever serve homemade food because they get home tire from work and are to busy.

Most children ands parents are getting diabetes, and other related illnesses due to so much fat in there bodies, but its there choice the sad part is they are not letting there children decide to be either healthy or unhealthy because we have become a generation that we want everything fast and ready to be eaten regardless the consequences. We are more concern with material things then our health. I mean if we do eat fast food very often and wouldn’t like to become obese I think we should at least do sometime type of exercise or sport.

I believe television is a good way to relax, entertain, learn but its also a powerfull tool to advertise. Most commercials are to sell the viewer something or to catch a certain groups attention. For example for the past week  I have being watching T.V. from 12-2 and gotten a break and watched again from 6-8. Its just so interesting that commercials change so drastically. For example in channel 43( fx-w)the day time commercials are meant more for stay home moms. In contrast to the evening they are more general.

There’s a commercial about a lady throwing away her old mop and buying a swiffer to replace it. But in the background they put a song, that says, ” loves hurts yeah yeah” and the lady is crying as if she is hurt to break up with a mop. What catches my attention is that, that floor is clean already and they only clean a small part. How sure can I be that it will help me clean a 3 bedroom apartment. They dont mention that if each room requires a new sheet to clean the place. In reality that is meant for an upper-class family that can afford to buy those type of cleaning equipments or for someone that finds it diffucult to wash a mop.

The second commercial I saw in the evening was about a kit-kat Chocolate bar. Everyone is in an office and all of sudden you start hearing this crunchy sound. They first break the bar in half and then they take a bite and for evry bit its a crunchy sound. Which is suppose to help them take a break off work. Of course the song is so easy to remember and towards the end they really emphasized KIT- KAT BAR!.  If someone who just came home from a long day at work and want a break they should just take a kit-kat bar and there your stress is out. So, if I need 3 breaks in one day I will feel more relax if a eat a kit-kat bar. After I eat it I go back to my desk and sit down. Eventually after sometime I will need to eat subways everyday and drink only water with the extra weight I will gain.
